Active Health Institute - Franco
Tell us a bit about yourself. When did you know you wanted to explore the role of a Chiropractor?
I was born and raised in Nepean, before accepting a hockey scholarship to Niagara University, where I played Division 1 NCAA hockey. I finished both my hockey and university degree at the University of Western Ontario, where we won the National Championship and I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree.
My passion for health, sports and helping others influenced the decision to attend the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. I graduated from chiropractic college (Magna Cum Laude) in 2007 and began my professional career as an associate at The Barrhaven Chiropractic Health Centre. In 2009, I took ownership of the clinic, which was solely a chiropractic clinic, with two practicing chiropractors, rebranded and expanded to create the Active Health Institute.
What was your biggest challenge to date?
Owning a business is a lot of work. Owning a business, while being a practicing Chiropractor is even more of a challenge. However, owning a business, while being a practicing Chiropractor and trying to find a work/life balance is the ultimate daily challenge.
What does Ottawa bring to your business?
Like most businesses, we rely on the economic stability of a city and its growth. We are very fortunate to have both in this city! In addition, I would consider Ottawa a very active and health conscious city, where individuals see the value in investing in themselves and their health.
How many patients in Ottawa have you helped?
Our clinic see’s hundreds of patients per week…I’d like to think we have helped every single one of them, one way or another.
What is the number one misconception about chiropractors
“Once you see a chiropractor, you can’t stop going.” We hear this all the time…Although I can’t speak for all chiropractors, at our clinic, the goal is to resolve the issue you came in for and to give you the tools needed (usually education and exercise), to prevent the issue from reoccurring and the need for continuous treatments.
What is your favourite part of your day and your job?
The social interaction with patients and colleagues.
As a business owner, what keeps you up at night?
As long as there are no disasters in site, nothing! I sleep like a baby.
Where do you see the Active Health Institute in the future?
Ultimately, we hope to continue to be able to provide the members of our community with the quality, health care services they have become accustom to receiving at our clinic. We intend on continuing our quest of being leaders in the promotion of health and fitness and strong community members.
What is your favourite Charity?
Giving back to the community has always been a continued personal goal for me. I have volunteered and been involved with various community and charitable organizations. However, my wife and I have a soft spot for any charity that will bring us closer to ending the fight against cancer.
